I believe it is vital that young people don’t become disillusioned with the world, and with what we, as young people, can achieve. There is much that we can do to change the world for better simply by having the knowledge, passion, and opportunity to do so.
I aim to equip my peers with a sound understanding of the issue of child soldiers, ignite their passion for change, and give them an opportunity to make a difference.

I am a student in my final year of high school. This blog will document my major work for the year, the “Article Thirty-Nine Concert”. You can learn more about my inspiration for this project here.
During this project I am seeking to ignite the passsions of young Australians in their own potential to create positive change on a global scale. The Article Thirty-Nine project will show young Australians that even by their small actions on a local scale, that they can have a large impact on the lives of other young people.
In this particular instance, I will be working to raise awareness about the plight of child soldiers and raise funds to assist in their rehabilitation. It seems to me that young people are both the victims and the solution to this problem.
The project will culminate in a concert in Sydney on November 23, in celebration of Universal Children’s Day. The concert will feature a range of musicians, representative speakers from aid and development organisations, university professors, and information and merchandise stalls.
The concert title “Article Thirty-Nine”, refers to Article 39 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states –
“States Parties shall take all appropriate measures to promote physical and psychological recovery and social reintegration of a child victim of…armed conflicts. Such recovery and reintegration shall take place in an environment which fosters the health, self-respect and dignity of the child.”
I have chosen this title as I feel it clearly represents the values and goals of my project.
